A day of exploring Platte Clove and Hell’s Hole Creek was planned. Unfortunately due to rain and thunder deep exploration as intended of Platte Clove was cut short. The storm never actually hit the area and the sun was back out shining once we backtracked to our starting point.

Back in our car, we traveled west on County Route 16 north on Clum Road through the town of Tannersville on Route 23A to the Molly Smith parking area. The rain clouds had cleared and we started a short quick hike to Kaaterskill Falls.

The gatekeeper to Kaaterskill Falls along Spruce Creek is Bastion Falls. This roadside waterfall is currently running strong. Bastion Falls normally stops much of the vehicular traffic along the hairpin turn of Route 23A and it certainly did on this day.

As we hiked to Kaaterskill Falls a major washout along the trail to the waterfall had occurred over the last week or so.
