For people who enjoy a leisurely stroll, the Kaaterskill Rail Trail is a perfect trail located in the Catskill Mountains filled with history. The well-maintained, level path follows an old rail grade. In autumn, the foliage is spectacular as the trees turn shades of orange and red. You’ll walk through a dense forest with a rushing waterfall nearby- it’s definitely worth the trek!

The Kaaterskill Rail Trail officially opened to the public on June 1, 2013. The KRT as it also is known covers most of the distance of the former Ulster and Delaware Railroad between Laurel House Road and the restored Haines Falls Railroad Station.

One of the best ways to experience the natural beauty of the Catskill Mountains is by walking the Kaaterskill Rail Trail and visiting nearby Kaaterskill Falls.
